Wi-Fi and network solutions for Gold Coast homes and offices

Fixing Slow and Patchy Wi-Fi: Practical Solutions for Gold Coast Homes and Offices

Few things are more frustrating than Wi-Fi that drops out during a video call or won't reach the back bedroom. At Real IT Consulting we solve Wi-Fi problems every week in homes and offices across Nerang, Carrara, Highland Park and the wider Gold Coast. Here's why coverage fails and what actually fixes it.

Why your Wi-Fi struggles

  • Router location. Most routers sit wherever the NBN connection enters the house — often a corner, garage or cupboard. Wi-Fi weakens with every wall it passes through, especially brick, concrete block and steel framing common in Queensland homes.
  • One router, big house. A single router simply cannot cover a large or two-storey home evenly, no matter how many antennas it has.
  • Interference. Neighbouring networks, microwaves, baby monitors and cordless phones all compete for the same airwaves, particularly on the crowded 2.4GHz band.
  • Old equipment. A five-plus-year-old router lacks modern standards like Wi-Fi 6, which handle many devices far better — important now the average home runs dozens of connected devices.
  • It might not be Wi-Fi at all. Sometimes the internet connection itself is the bottleneck. We test both so you don't buy equipment you don't need.

Solutions that actually work

  • Reposition and reconfigure. Sometimes moving the router and choosing cleaner channels solves it at zero hardware cost.
  • Mesh Wi-Fi systems. Two or three mesh units blanket a home in seamless coverage — one network name, automatic handover as you move around. This is our most common fix for larger homes.
  • Wired access points. For offices and demanding homes, access points connected by Ethernet cable deliver the most reliable performance.
  • Upgrading the NBN plan or modem. If the incoming connection is the limit, no Wi-Fi gear will fix it — we'll tell you honestly.

For businesses

Slow Wi-Fi costs staff time every single day. We design business-grade wireless with proper coverage planning, guest networks kept separate from business systems, and security settings that meet modern standards.
