Cloud sync is not cloud backup

A common and dangerous misunderstanding: OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox are sync services. If a file is deleted or encrypted by ransomware, that change syncs to the cloud too. True backup keeps versioned, point-in-time copies you can wind back to — "give me my files as they were last Tuesday."

What good cloud backup looks like

• Automatic — runs itself; anything relying on humans remembering will fail.
• Versioned — restore from before the mistake or infection happened.
• Encrypted — your data protected in transit and at rest.
• Monitored — someone is alerted when backups stop. Silent failure is the killer.
• Tested — a backup that has never been restored is a hope, not a plan.
